| Mother Tongue
The mother tongue refers to the language used
for communication between parents and their children in the
household.
The predominant mother tongue of the population
of the district is Saraiki, which is spoken by 72.47 percent
of the total population. The percentage of the population
who speaks Pashto is 22.02 percent. The percentage of the
population speaking Urdu, Balochi and Sindi is 4.28 percent.
In urban areas the percentage of Saraiki speaking people falls
to 60.46 percent as compared to 74.55 percent in rural areas.
In contrast the percentage of people speaking Pashto in urban
area is lower i.e. 15.70 percent as compared to rural area
at 23.12 percent. |
