| Ethnicity and Tribes
The Dera Ismail Khan tehsil has in addition
to the Pathan tribes of Koh-e-Surkh a large mixed population
of Baloch and Jat tribes who had migrated here from south
and trans-Indus area. Dera Ismail Khan city has a large number
of families referred to in the earlier documents as Mootani-Pathans,
these are Alizais, Sadozais, Khawjakzais, Khakwanis and Barakzais.
After partition over 8000 migrants from India mostly of Rajput
stock were settled in Dera Ismail Khan. Majority occupied
the Hindu mohallas of Dera Ismail Khan city but some have
gone over to Paharpur town. |
